A study by Srour et al, published in The BMJ (originally The British Medical Journal), found that the consumption of sugary drinks was significantly associated with the risk overall cancer, and of breast cancer in particular. Likewise, the consumption of 100% fruit juice was also associated with elevated risk of cancer. Causality was not established and the authors called for more research on this topic, which represents a potentially modifiable risk factor for cancer. Read more about this study here.
