CHECK AND IDENTIFY
Time to check your pantry!
- Do you have any refined or hydrogenated “oils to avoid”? If so, identify which type of oil you can replace it with next time you shop.
- Read the labels of at least 10 of your packaged food items. How many have added sugar? (Remember, 4 grams of sugar equals 1 teaspoon.)
REVIEW AND COMMIT
Review the Environmental Working Group’s (EWG’s) Shopper’s Guide to Pesticides in Produce. Click the link below, and scroll down until you see “The Dirty Dozen” and “The Clean Fifteen”.
Decide which item(s) on the Dirty Dozen list are most realistic and available for you to buy organic, and commit to buying that item or those items organic. (Hint: Check which fruits and vegetables are in season – organic produce is often more affordable and easier to find when the crop is in season.)
