Stories of Success

Have used ‘mindfulness’ more in dealing with myself and others. Have revised my diet in several ways – was already focused on diet before this program, but learned a lot from Megan’s classes. Have stepped up my exercise – more rounded out – weight bearing, aerobic, strengthening and stretching. Feel connected with people in this program.  I continue to make changes in my environment, ventilating the house daily as suggested, changed out cookware and got rid of most plastics and toxic cleaning agents. Passed along information learned to several friends/relatives.”

“This topic and presentation was awesome. Disturbingly so, but I wouldn’t water down any of the information. Wow. I learned so much (once I got over the Holy Crap-ness of the facts presented) and I find I am sharing all the info with my friends….and anyone who will stand still long enough to listen to me. I now look at my environment with completely changed vision….”

“I’ve cleaned out my home of almost all my cleaning products, personal care products, aluminum and plastic cook/bake ware. I now shop at our Food Co-op (as a member) and local farmers markets. When I do go into a traditional grocery store I read the ingredients on all the labels. I meditate daily. I eat carefully now and slowly. I avoid watching the so-called news. I move away from people who are negative and are ‘all about them’. I take time every day to practice gratitude for the bounty and beauty in my life.

“Doing tube exercise when I can’t get out to walk. Learned about this in class. Got a new bike. Have ridden quite a bit and look forward to spring rides.

I do a much better job in handling stress. I recognize how bad it is for my health and do my best to reduce it. This was one of my major concerns when I started the program. I have even walked out of a meeting when it started to become contentious.”

Having a room full of peers made all the difference in trying to adopt the Anticancer principles.  When you combine it all together – the information, the encouragement, the friendship – it just makes a cocktail that you can kind of sink your teeth into.”

“I have continued to try to improve my diet. I eat very little red meat (hardly any, really) which is a big change. I read labels much more. I refer to the EWG.org site regularly before buying products (and have told friends about it). I’ve stepped up my exercise routine. I do exercise daily and continue to wear my pedometer and track my exercise and steps every day. I have also kept Bill’s Wheel of Life in mind. I have spent much more time meditating and developing the spiritual part of me. I feel things are much more balanced.”

“I used to treat myself to a Twinkie and a Ho-Ho every night before bed.  Now that I understand the relationship between fat, sugar and cancer, I’ve stopped doing that and lost eight pounds.”

“Simply aware that I have choices I make every day, how I respond, how I feel, what I do, it’s all my choice.  There is great power in that.”

“I really think Bill Gunn’s presentation of change and all the means of sustaining change is foundational to the success of the entire ACL class. It’s up to me now!  As Margaret stated, you have to be “intentional” about making change.  A wealth of information was provided – all interesting and beneficial.”

“I enjoy the physical activity of the hikes/walks & the natural beauty of the views. For Mother’s Day I asked for a hike- nothing else-just a walk in the woods with my kids and husband! Last week, I went hiking in VT for 4 days. I’ve enjoyed trying a number of new activities including dance kinetics, Qigong, Fit ball and Yoga!”

I was particularly impressed with the classes on chemicals and food.  Both instructors were able to counteract a lot of what is simply not good practices, and were very helpful to our discussions.  I applaud their knowledge, current work and thank everyone involved in this program.”
