Americans get most of their calories and sugar from ultra-processed foods

A study by Martinez et al, published in the British Medical Journal, investigated the contribution of ultra-processed foods to the intake of added sugars in the USA.

The researchers found that ultra-processed foods comprised almost 60% of total calorie intake, and contributed almost 90% of the energy intake from added sugars.
