Effects of Mediterranean and western diets: comparing health outcomes

This metanalysis, by Bloomfield et al, and published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, summarized the findings of many studies that looked at whether a Mediterranean diet is healthier than the typical Western diet.  The study concluded that limited evidence suggests that a Mediterranean diet with no restriction on fat intake may reduce the incidence of cardiovascular events, breast cancer, and type 2 diabetes mellitus but may not affect all-cause mortality.
