A study by Hall et al, published in the journal Cell Metabolism, found that when adults are given diets of unprocessed foods and processed foods, they eat approximately 500 more calories per day on the processed food diet. In the experiment, the diets were matched for calories, fat, fiber, sugar, and macronutrients.
