In a study published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology, researchers found that women who participated in any moderate-intensity recreational physical activity, such as brisk walking, after diagnosis had an approximately 64% lower risk of death than inactive women. Furthermore, exercising at recommended amounts of 2.5 h/wk of moderate-intensity physical activity compared with no exercise was associated with a slightly higher risk reduction of 67%.17 Although our risk reductions were observed for total deaths, the majority of deaths were from breast cancer.
